Sri Ramachandra Central Library

Sri Ramachandra Central Library was conceived by the great visionary SRI. N.P.V. RAMASAMY UDAYAR, THE FOUNDER CHANCELLOR of the University. He foresaw the great strides of Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University) and perceived the need for a spacious library. The culmination of his vision resulted in the 40,000 square feet ambient treasure house, which was inaugurated in 1985.

In the year 1997, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University) entered into a historical inter institutional alliance with the Harvard Medical International, Boston, USA. To reminiscence this historical alliance this library was renamed as Sri Ramachandra Central Library.

A large collection of medical and allied health sciences books, engineering books and journals gathered over a period of 34 years provide rich study and reference material. As of 2020, the Library is equipped with a collection of 63518 medical and allied health sciences text books and 5195 engineering and technology books classified under “Dewey Decimal Classification”, 414 National and International print journals, 1282 online journals which can be accessed anywhere anytime through remote access, 104991 back issues and 12 popular databases widely used by students and research scholars and faculty members. The serials are catalogued in "National Union Catalogue for Scientific Serials" (NUCSSI). For ready reference 8052 copies of Dissertations/Projects and 266 Ph.D theses are available in physical formats. They have also been uploaded in the “Shodhganga” Reservoir, a book bank that functions efficiently as part of the library.

A separate “Archives” section is located, containing old editions of books and back issues of journals which are preserved for ready reference. The oldest medical book available in the library dates back to 1892! A shelf earmarked for displaying books autographed by the authors is a unique innovation present in our library.

A large area is set apart in the library, to enable students to study with their own resources. This can seat 252 students, which is in addition to the 398 seats available inside the library. Mindful of the need for accessing maximum knowledge in the quickest time by utilizing modern technology, our library provides free access to more than 5984 CD-ROMs. Our digital library is indeed a show piece. In addition digital and Internet lab with over 65 computer systems are available for use by any member of the university free of cost.
